Checking Radial Play Of Crankshaft

- Remove crankshaft bearing covers.
> Removing and installing crankshaft (V6 Turbo)
- Carefully clean crankshaft bearing pin.
- Place Plastigage strip corresponding to the width of the bearing at the centre of the bearing pin or into the bearing shell.
- Fit crankshaft bearing covers.
- 4.1 Position crankshaft bearing covers.
- 4.2 Screw in screws for crankshaft bearing covers fully by hand and tighten in the specified tightening sequence. Do not turn the crankshaft!
- 4.3 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8- to > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) .
- 4.4 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9- to > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.) .
- 4.5 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8- to > Torque angle + 90° .
- 4.6 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9-
to > Torque angle + 90°

- Remove crankshaft bearing covers.

- Compare Plastigage strip with setpoint values shown in the table.
