Subsequent Work

  1. Install anti-roll bar mount.

    > WM, 407919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ANTI-ROLL BAR MOUNT "INSTALLING "

  2. Tighten screw joint -1 and 2-  for secondary bearing on power-steering gear.

    > Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)  > Final tightening rotation angle + 180°

  3. After screwing on the -3-  secondary bearing, tighten screws -2-  for the main bearings for the power-steering gear -1-  .

    > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)  > Final tightening torque angle + 180°

    Mounting for power-steering gear

    NOTE: Voltage drop 
    • Irreparable damage to control unit 
    • Damage to control unit 
    • Fault entries in the control unit 
    • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
    • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

      → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

      → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

      → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

  4. Activate power-steering gear.
    1. 4.1 PIWIS Tester  must be connected to the vehicle before starting the Tester. Switch on the ignition.
    2. 4.2 Using the PIWIS Tester,  select Power steering > Maintenance/repairs > Commissioning. 
    3. 4.3 Follow the further instructions on the Tester.
  5. Check the front toe and make adjustments if necessary.
