Adjusting Matrix Led Headlights

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2023 Porsche Panamera, 2022 Porsche Panamera, 2021 Porsche Panamera, 2020 Porsche Panamera, and 2019 Porsche Panamera. NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

On vehicles with air suspension, set the chassis height to Normal level (MEDIUM HEIGHT).

Check the following when adjusting the headlight:

Information 

Headlights that are not adjusted correctly at the sides, particularly MXB headlights, can have a considerable dazzling effect.

Information 

Use > VAS 5208A - Headlight aiming device  or > VAS 621 001 - Headlight adjusting unit  for adjusting the Matrix LED headlights.

Information 

Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles:  Lateral adjustment of the headlights is not permitted. The adjusting screw is blocked by a seal.

  1. Align headlight aiming device parallel to the vehicle and position it with respect to the centre axis and height of the dipped beam headlight.
  2. Switch on ignition and turn on dipped beam headlights.

    Do not set the light switch to AUTO.

    Automatic activation of adjustment light distribution.

  3. Open the front lid to activate adjustment light distribution automatically.

    Non-C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles. Continue with Step  5

  4. Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles: 

    Adjustment light distribution does not need to be activated for height adjustment.

    1. 4.1 Open the front lid and activate adjustment light distribution manually using the Tester.
    2. 4.2 Connect Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
    3. 4.3 Select the vehicle type if necessary.
    4. 4.4 Select the Front camera  control unit in the overview  . F12 to continue. Should a Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL) be created? F11 to continue.
    5. 4.5 Select Drive links checks  .
    6. 4.6 Matrix LED headlights  must be selected. F12 to continue.
    7. 4.7 Select matrix LED headlights adjustment light activation for USA/Canada  . F12 to continue.
    8. 4.8 Follow Tester instructions and notes. Press F8 to start.

  5. Open the service flap -3-  .

  6. Adjust headlights.
    1. 6.1 Height adjustment: Adjust light/dark limit well below the nominal value using adjusting bolt -1-  .

      Then, adjust nominal value from bottom to top.

      Not for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles:  > Adjustment value -1 % +/- 0.2 % 

      Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles:  > Adjustment value -0.2 % +/- 0.2 % 

    2. 6.2 Lateral adjustment: Adjust vertical edge of the adjustment pixel -E-  to position V using the adjusting bolt -2-  > Adjustment value 0 % +/- 0.2 %

    Adjusting MATRIX LED headlights

  7. Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles: 
    1. 7.1 Check whether adjusting bolt seal is set.
    2. 7.2 If the seal is lost or damaged, replace it.

    Information 

    After adjusting the MATRIX LED headlights, they must then be calibrated.

  8. Connect Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  9. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  10. Select the Front camera control  unit in the overview  . F12 to continue. Should a Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL) be created? F11 to continue.
  11. Select Drive links checks  .
  12. Select Matrix LED headlights  . F12 to continue.
  13. Select calibration of Matrix LED headlights  . F12 to continue.
  14. Read and follow the information and instructions on the tester. Perform calibration according to menu guidance. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  15. Go back to the Overview  . Press F7 to switch to the Additional menu.
  16. Select read out all fault memories and erase them if necessary  . F12 to continue. F8 to erase the fault memories.
  17. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Unplug tester on vehicle.
