Disassembling Front Spring Strut

Preloaded or pressurised components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area.
→ Relieve tension on components before starting work.
→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
Information
Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:
- Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years .
- If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs .
Information
- If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs .
- When replacing the coil springs, use new spring plates due to settling behaviour and pitting .

- 2.1 Clamp front spring strut in > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device-2- in such a way that the mounting plates of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount.
- 2.2 Pre-tension front spring strut using > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device-2- until the piston rod -3- is relieved.

Unscrew nut -4-
with > T10001 - shock absorber set
or ring wrench (angled), while countering against the hexagon of the piston rod -3-

Front spring strut in spring tensioning device
- Relieve tension on front spring strut using > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device until there is no tension on the coil spring.
- Remove components -1 to 7-
from shock absorber strut.
