Loosening Rear Brake Calliper

NOTE: NOTIFICATION 
Removal of brake calliper 
  • Paint defects on brake calliper 

    → Proceed with care when setting back the brake pads.

    → Protect the paintwork on the brake calliper from damage using a suitable cloth.

Information 

Never use power tools (impact bolter) for loosening and securing the brake calliper on the wheel bearing housing.

  1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  from parking brake actuator -2-  .

  2. Loosen electric line for ABS -1-  from holder -2-  .
    1. 2.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection for brake pad wear indicator -3-  .
    2. 2.2  Unclip electric line -1-  from holder -2-  and set it aside.

  3. Carefully pull out contacts for brake pad wear indicator -1-  . Unclip cable -2-  from brackets -3-  and remove it.

  4. Unclip rear brake line -1-  from holder -2-  .

    Information 

    If there is a burr on the outside of the brake discs, press the brake pads back using a suitable tool.

    Information 

    If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the reservoir by suction in order to prevent an overflow when the disc brake pads are pushed back.

  5. Loosen rear brake calliper -1-  .
    1. 5.1  Unscrew screws -2-  .

    2. 5.2 Replace screws! 

      Position of brake calliper for removing rear axle: 

  6. Secure rear brake calliper -1-  in the wheel housing.

    Get another person to help by holding the brake calliper! 

    1. 6.1  Fit tie-wrap -3-  on the threaded bolt in the rear wheel housing. Fit plastic nut -2-  to secure the tie-wrap.

    2. 6.2  Remove rear brake calliper -1-  and secure it at the specified position. Make sure not to damage the brake lines on the brake calliper.

    3. 6.3  Place cloths between the contact surfaces and brake calliper to prevent damage to the paintwork.

      Position of brake calliper for removing the brake disc or brake pads: 

  7. Secure the brake calliper -1-  with a tie-wrap -2-  on the anti-roll bar -3-  .

    Get another person to help by holding the brake calliper!

    1. 7.1  Place cloths -4-  between the contact surfaces and brake calliper to prevent damage to the paintwork.
