Removing Bellows For Steering-Gear Housing

CAUTION: Electrically moved components

Danger of limbs being trapped
→ Switch off electric power to drive motor.

→ Make sure it does not switch on again.

→ Check that there is no electric charge.

Information

The PDCC system can be active when the ignition is switched on (even when the vehicle is stationary). To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arm and bellows of the steering gear when the ignition is switched off and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

Loosen outer clamp -arrow- on the steering-gear housing bellows using > VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers.

Outer clamp
Loosen inner clamp -1- on the steering-gear housing bellows using suitable pliers.

Loosening inner clamp
Unscrew lock nut from tie rod.
Pull steering-gear housing bellows -3- together with the two clamps off the tie rod -2- .
