Installing Rear Side Member

Information 

  1. Apply adhesive on marked areas of the body. Adhesive must not be applied to the welded joint area on which a full weld will be applied using inert gas.

    > Application depth 3, 0 mm

  2. Apply adhesive on marked areas of the rear side member. Adhesive must not be applied to the welded joint area on which a full weld will be applied using inert gas.

    Apply adhesive evenly over the entire bonding surface. > Application depth 0.5 mm 

    1. 2.1 Also apply an adhesive bead of sealant all around the bonding surface. > Application depth 3 mm 
  3. Install rear side member.
    1. 3.1 Resistance spot-weld rear side member.

    2. 3.2 Set blind rivets on rear side member. > BLIND RIVETS 999.190.227.01

  4. Install reinforcement bracket.
    1. 4.1 Install reinforcement bracket and check that it fits perfectly.
    2. 4.2 Drill holes for blind rivets. > Diameter 6.6 mm

    3. 4.3 Remove reinforcement bracket.

      Information 

      • Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
      • The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
      • Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 
    6. 4.6 Apply adhesive on marked areas of the body.

      > Application depth 3, 0 mm

    7. 4.7 Apply adhesive on marked areas of the reinforcement bracket.

    1. 5.1 Install C-pillar bracket and check that it fits perfectly.
    2. 5.2 Drill holes for blind rivets -Schwarze Punkte-  . > Diameter 6.6 mm

    3. 5.3 Remove C-pillar bracket.

  6. Install connecting piece for cross member.
    1. 6.1 Install connecting piece for cross member and check that it fits perfectly.
    2. 6.2 Drill holes for blind rivets. > Diameter 6.6 mm

    3. 6.3 Remove connecting piece for cross member.
    4. 6.4 Prepare connection areas of the body for joining. Adhesive must not be applied to the welded joint area on which a full weld will be applied using inert gas.
