General Information
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Porsche Macan, 2020 Porsche Macan, and 2019 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Toxic substances
- Danger of poisoning or suffocation
- Danger of burns to the eyes and skin
→ Ventilate the work area well.
→ Never ingest or inhale.
→ Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.
Information
- The vehicle, components and adhesives must be brought to processing temperature (acclimatised) before starting work. The processing temperature must be maintained for 30 minutes before starting to work on the bonding surfaces.
- Bonding surfaces must be free of oil, old adhesive, dirt, moisture, and layers of paint and oxide.
- Silicone and Teflon sprays cannot be used anywhere in the workshop area.
- Body structural adhesive must only be used on bare metal components.
- Only use abrasive products based on pure silicon carbide (SIC) for sanding/grinding down the bonding area until bare.
- Always wear clean gloves when touching the cleaned surfaces to ensure that no sweat from your hands or dirt is transferred onto the bonding surface.
- The joining process must take place directly after applying adhesive in order to guarantee a high quality and reliable bond. Otherwise the adhesive bead must be removed, the surface must be pre-treated and the adhesive must be re-applied.
- After the adhesive has hardened, carefully prime accessible bonding areas and seal with body sealant. Protect bonding areas in cavities from corrosion using cavity preservation.
Information
- Process the adhesive within the processing time. The adhesive must be applied and the body part must be joined within this time period. Any resistance welding or mechanical joining procedures (e.g. riveting, screwing) to be carried out in the bonding area must also be performed within this time period.
- Do not put pressure on bonded parts until hardening is complete!
Information
During cold periods, overnight or in cold countries, appropriate steps must be taken to ensure that the minimum hardening temperature is reached.
- Optimise heating system settings, e.g. deactivate night-time lowering of temperature.
- Keep doors and windows closed; avoid draughts.
- Install auxiliary heaters in the body repair area.
Information
- In addition to this Service Information, observe the relevant job descriptions for body repairs!
