Ultra-High-Strength Steel
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Porsche Macan, 2020 Porsche Macan, and 2019 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Information
- Only "Genuine Porsche spare parts" must be used for repair work.
Information
Ultra-high-strength steel panels are extremely strong and rigid. These body parts are recast warm during manufacturing and are press-hardened in cooled recast tools.
Damaged or deformed body parts can impair torsional rigidity, flexional resistance and crash safety.
Information on ultra-high-strength steel:
- Ultra-high-strength body parts must only be replaced as a complete unit.
- Ultra-high-strength body parts can no longer be reshaped.
- Straightening and reshaping is not permitted.
- Use special drill bits for drilling ultra-high-strength steel.
- Resistance spot-welding can only be carried out using the inverter welders currently approved by Porsche AG.
- Plug spot-welding ultra-high-strength steel does not produce sufficiently strong joints. If holes need to be welded, additional welding seams must be applied.
- For butt, overlap and reinforcement welding, the individual spot welds and welded seams must be at least 30 mm long.
- Resistance spotwelds can also be replaced by blind rivets and adhesive. The number of rivets must be increased for ultra-high-strength steel panels.
If repairs are needed, always read the spe cil c instructions in the relevant Workshop Service Information.
