Installing A-Pillar Reinforcement

Information 

• Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
• The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
• Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 

1. Install A-pillar reinforcement and check that it fits perfectly. Check gap dimensions.

   Information 

   Adhesive must not be applied to areas to be plug-welded or fully welded using inert gas.

   1. 1.1  Apply adhesive to the marked areas. > Application depth 3.0 mm 

      > 5X00IN21 WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE - section on "Installing"

   2. 1.2  Apply foam filler to the sealing element area on the body.

      > 5X00IN22 WORKING WITH BODY FOAM FILLER

      Make sure that all openings and gaps between the A-pillar reinforcement and body are closed off with the sealing compound.

3. Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
   1. 3.1  Plug-weld areas -LHD vehicle -  and - Item C-  using inert gas.
   2. 3.2  Resistance spot-weld area -RHD vehicle-  .

4. Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
   1. 4.1  Plug-weld area
   2. 4.2  Apply a full weld to the area -Arrows-  using inert gas.

6. Resistance spot-weld the side member closing element.
   1. 6.1  Plug-weld area -RHD vehicle -  using inert gas.
   2. 6.2  Apply a full weld to the area -1- using inert gas.
