Installing Rubber Mounting For Front Final Drive
- Check whether the T10254/5 - spindle
can be inserted on the new
rubber mounting for front final drive.WARNING: Risk of damage or injury from foreign bodies flying around during grinding, drilling and milling

- If the T10254/5 - spindle cannot be inserted through the through-bore in the inside of the rubber mounting for the final drive:
Drill out new rubber mounting for front final drive.
- 2.1 Clamp rubber mounting for front final drive -2- slightly in the vice using protective jaws -1- , making sure not to damage the outer sleeve of the rubber mounting for front final drive -2- .
- 2.2
Position drill -3-
with drill bit on the rubber mounting for front final drive and drill out the through-bore in several steps.
- Step 1, drill bit diameter: 11 mm
- Step 2, drill bit diameter: 11.5 mm
- Step 3, drill bit diameter: 12 mm
New rubber mounting for front final drive
- If a bonded rubber mounting for front final drive was installed:
Remove all adhesive residue from the bore.
Information
All components must be at room temperature.
- Clean new
rubber mounting for final drive and bore.
- 4.1 Roughen the bonding area of the rubber mounting for front final drive and bore using a clean 120-grit emery cloth.
- 4.2 Clean rubber mounting for front final drive and bore several times using LOCTITE 7063 and wipe dry with a new disposable cloth or paper towel until there is no more dirt on the cleaning cloth.
- 4.3 Allow components to dry off for at least 2 minutes.
- Apply adhesive LOCTITE 638.
- 5.1 Apply adhesive LOCTITE 638 as a bead -1- on joint surfaces of rubber mounting for front final drive and bore and press in rubber mounting for front final drive within 4 minutes.

- Position rubber mounting for front final drive -1-
with marking -2-
at an angle of 90° with respect to the grooves -3-

Marking on rubber mounting for front final drive
- Insert rubber mounting for front final drive in such a way that the marking is pointing exactly in direction of travel.
- > T10254 - Assembly fixture
must now be fitted. Then, press in rubber mounting for front final drive > Rubber mounting for front final drive

- T40186/3 - Thrust washer -5-
- T10205/4 - Supporting -6-
- VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder-7-
- T10254/4 - Nut -8-
- T10254/4 - Spindle -9-
- 8.1 Press rubber mounting for front final drive -4- as far as it will go into the rear axle housing -3- .
- 8.2 Visually inspect the rear axle housing -3- for paint damage and correct paint damage if necessary.

> T10254 - Assembly fixture
must now be removed.
Rubber mounting for front final drive
Information
The bonded area must not be moved or subjected to mechanical pressure.
- Leave pressed-in rubber mounting for front final drive to harden for at least 12 hours at a temperature of at least 20°C.
- Remove excess adhesive that has not hardened using a cloth (without cleaner).
- Lift up rear axle housing -1-
.
- 11.1 Position rear axle housing -1- using > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack .
- 11.2 Fit and tighten new
screw -2-
.
- Initial tightening 40 Nm (30 ftlb.)
- Final tightening + 90°
Screw for rubber mounting on front final drive
- Replace screws on front rear axle housing
- 12.1 Unscrew screws on front rear axle housing -1- fully.
- 12.2
Screw in and tighten new
screws on front rear axle housing -1-
.
- Initial tightening 115 Nm
- Final tightening + 90°
Screw on rear axle housing, front
- > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack must now be removed.
- Install stone guard -1-
.
- 14.1 Position stone guard -1- .
- 14.2 Clip in clips -2- .
