Installing Crankshaft
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Fit new
bearing shells -1 to 4-
with correct coloured markings.
Crankshaft bearing shells
- 1.1 Coat bearing shells -1 to 4- with oil.
- 1.2
Insert bearing shells -1 to 4-
on the relevant crankshaft bearing.
Ensure that they are seated correctly.
- 1.3
Insert upper thrust washers -5-
in the 3rd crankshaft bearing.

You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.
- Insert crankshaft.
Marking on crankshaft and bracing wheel
- 2.1 Insert crankshaft into the cylinder block with the help of another person.
Check the markings -1 and 2- on the crankshaft and balance shaft bracing wheel.
- Fit new
bearing shells -5 to 8-
with correct coloured markings.
Bearing shells and crankshaft bearing covers
- 3.1 Coat bearing shells -5 to 8- with oil.
- 3.2
Insert bearing shells -5 to 8-
on the relevant bearing cover.
Ensure that they are seated correctly.
- 3.3 Insert lower thrust washers -9- in the 3rd crankshaft bearing.
- 3.4 Insert bearing covers -1 to 4- .
Check that the dowel sleeves are fitted correctly.
- Tighten crankshaft bearing covers.

Tightening sequence for crankshaft bearing covers
- 4.1
Tighten new
screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8-
.
- Initial tightening 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
- 4.2
Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8-
.
- Torque angle + 90°
- 4.3
Tighten new
screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9-
.
- Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- 4.4
Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9-
.
- Torque angle + 90°
- 4.1
Tighten new
screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8-
.
- Fit oil pump chain drive.
Oil pump chain drive
- 5.1 Place chain for oil pump drive -1- on the crankshaft sprocket -2- .
- 5.2 Position guide rail.
- 5.3 Replace screws for guide rail -3 and 4- .
- 5.4 Fit and tighten new
screws for guide rail -3 and 4-
.
- Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)

T40362 - Locking tool
must now be turned 180° anti-clockwise and removed from the balance shaft bracing wheel -1-
.
