Removing Front-Axle Carrier

  • Risk of squashing or crushing 

    → Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

  1. Remove heat shields.

    1. 1.1 Remove screws -1 and 2-  .
    2. 1.2 Remove left and right heat shields.
  2. Loosen control arm -1-  from front-axle carrier.

    1. 2.1 Unscrew screw securing control arm to front-axle carrier -2-  , counter at the nut -3-  and make sure not to damage the brake lines -4-  .
    2. 2.2 Swivel control arm -1-  away from the front-axle carrier towards the wheel housing.
    3. 2.3 Secure control arm -1-  at a suitable position using welding wire, for example.
  3. Remove struts -1-  on both sides of the vehicle.

    Strut

    1. 3.1 Unscrew screw for strut -2-  .
    2. 3.2 Unscrew nut on strut -3-  .
    3. 3.3 Guide threaded bolt of strut -1-  out of the front-axle carrier and remove strut -1-  .
  4. Open locking lug -1-  with a screwdriver, open housing cover -2-  on the right longitudinal member and remove it.

  5. Disconnect electric lines on the right longitudinal member.

    1. 5.1 Unclip headlight vent line -8-  at the clip -7-  and set it aside.
    2. 5.2 Unscrew fastening nut -2-  and move ground lines -1 to 6-  aside.
    3. 5.3 Disconnect electric plug connection -5-  and pull it out of the clip.
    4. 5.4 Unscrew fastening nut -4-  , remove ground line -3-  and set it aside.
  6. Press in locking lugs -1-  , disconnect ground line -2-  by pulling it in -direction of arrow-  and set it aside.

  7. Disconnect electric wire harness -1-  from front-axle carrier.

    1. 7.1 Unclip electric plug connection for engine mount -2-  from line bracket -3-  .
    2. 7.2 Unscrew nut on line bracket -4-  .
    3. 7.3 Remove line bracket -3-  from front-axle carrier.
    4. 7.4 Set electric wire harness -1-  aside.
  8. Loosen engine mount -1-  .

    Engine mount screws

    1. 8.1 Unscrew screws on engine mount -2 and 3-  .
  9. Prepare unit elevating platform > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  with the assembly fixture > VAS 6832/5 - Assembly fixture - Macan  .
  10. Raise the elevating platform and guide front locating pins -1-  into the jacking points on the body provided for this purpose.

    Locating pins are only for guiding the assembly fixture and must not be fitted. 

    Only for V6 biturbo engines:  Do not use locating pin at the front left in direction of travel (due to accessibility of jacking point).

  11. Guide rear assembly driver -1-  into the jacking points provided for this purpose on the body.

  12. Remove front-axle carrier -9-  .

    1. 12.1 Mark installation position of front-axle carrier -9-  at the positions -A to D-  using a felt-tip pen.
    2. 12.2 Unscrew screws on front-axle carrier -1 to 8-  .
    3. 12.3 Lower the front-axle carrier -9-  on > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  .
