Checking Fuel Pump Delivery Rate

WARNING: Toxic substances 
  • Danger of poisoning or suffocation 
  • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin 
    1. → Ventilate the work area well.
    2. → Never ingest or inhale.
    3. → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
    4. → Wear personal protective gear.
    5. → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.
WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 
    1. → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    2. → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
    3. → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    4. → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    5. → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
  1. Connect a battery charger.
  2. Attach or mount a warning sign > Example of a warning sign  in a clearly visible position on the vehicle.

  3. Loosen clamp and pull off fuel supply line (low-pressure). Soak up emerging fuel with a cloth.
  4. Connect the tester to the low-pressure hose -2-  on the body side. The setup must be fully sealed.

  5. Insert the free end of hose -3-  downstream of the pressure reducer into a larger container.
  6. A second person should monitor possible overfilling of the container and secure it to prevent the canister from falling over.
  7. Connect and prepare the Tester. > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 
    1. 7.1  The fuel pump can be activated and deactivated as follows:
    2. 7.2  Under DME,  switch to the Drive links/checks  menu item.
    3. 7.3  Select Drive links  and press F12=Next to confirm.
    4. 7.4  Select the Fuel predelivery pump activation  function and press F12=Next to confirm.
    5. 7.5  Activate the Fuel predelivery pump activation  function by pressing F8=Start. Activate the stopwatch at the same time.
    6. 7.6  After 30 seconds, deactivate the Fuel predelivery pump activation  function by pressing F8=Stop.
      1. 7.6.1  Exit the function.
  8. The fuel pump must deliver at least 3 litres a minute. 
  9. Fill fuel from the canister into the fuel tank through the fuel filler pipe.
