Removing Rear Spring Damper

WARNING: Improper handling of fluid-carrying lines 
  • Escaping fluid 
  • System malfunction 
  • Risk of escaping fluid catching fire 

    → Do not kink, crush or twist the line

    → Avoid torsion and shearing

    → Fit the line carefully

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

Information 

The procedure for removing and installing is described for one side as an example.

The procedure for the other side is practically identical.

WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
  • Risk of crushing 
  • Risk of damage to components 

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

Information 

Always use an intermediate layer (e.g. hard rubber) when using the jack!

  1. Support wheel bearing housing using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  .
  2. Remove rear spring damper -1-  .

    Spring damper rear

    1. 2.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .
    2. 2.2  Push wheel housing liner aside and unscrew screws securing spring damper to body -3-  .
    3. 2.3  Loosen screw securing spring damper to trailing arm -4-  and counter at the lock nut.
    4. 2.4  Remove screw securing spring damper to trailing arm -1-  , push rear spring damper -1-  together and carefully guide it out of the wheel housing.
