Calibrating Level Control: Notes

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery

  1. Move ready-to-drive vehicle (full fuel tank with tyre repair kit or spare wheel and tools) onto the measuring platform ("floating").
  2. > VAS 6918 - Quick-clamping unit  must be fitted on the wheels.
    1. 2.1  Pull off wheel trim cover with > 9229/1 - puller hook  .
    2. 2.2  Mounting surfaces for the quick-clamping holders on the wheels and the adapter surfaces must be clean and flat.
    3. 2.3  > VAS 6918 - Quick-clamping device  (with the claws first) must be positioned in the center of the rim and tightened by turning the retainer (clockwise) in the rim.
  3. Connect PIWIS Tester to the vehicle, then start and switch on ignition.
  4. Apply the electric parking brake.
  5. Close the doors and tailgate.

    Information 

    If faults are still present after erasing the fault memory, these must be corrected first.

  6. Erase the fault memory.

    Using PIWIS Tester  select Chassis control > Fault memory > Erase fault memory  .

    Information 

    If an implausible value is entered (actual value is not accepted by PIWIS Tester), the section Procedure: Measured actual value is not accepted should be observed.

  7. Height sensor calibration must be performed: Using PIWIS Tester, select Chassis control > Maintenance & repairs > Height sensor calibration.
    1. 7.1  Determine the actual value for the height of the vehicle body at the measuring points.
      1. 7.1.1  When determining the height of the vehicle body, the height is measured from the lower edge of the wing to the upper edge of the measured-value pickup, dimension .
      2. 7.1.2  Then add the radius of the measured-value pickup 32.5 mm to this measured dimension .

        Sample calculation: 

        Measured dimension = 382 mm; measured-value pickup radius = 32.5 mm

        X + measured-value pickup radius = vehicle body height 

        382 mm + 32.5 mm = 414.5 mm

    2. 7.2  Enter the determined values in FIWIS Tester.
