Removing Glass Using Wire For Cutting Tool
Information
- The following instructions describe the general procedure for removing car windows with the glass separating tool VAG 1474 B.
- Information on procedures relating to specific vehicles can be obtained from the instructions in the appropriate service information.

Information
- It is generally possible to remove the windscreen with the cutting wire and the optional cutting thread contained in the tool set.
- In contrast to cutting threads, however, the cutting wire has the following disadvantages:
- Danger of injury when tearing off the cutting wire.
- Danger of damage to materials on paint surfaces and interior equipment parts.
- For the reasons outlined above we recommend using the cutting thread.

NOTIFICATION
Windscreen removed incorrectly
- Risk of damage to vehicle identification number (VIN) label
- Risk of damage to paintwork
→ When cutting out the windscreen, make sure that the label with the vehicle identification number (VIN) is not damaged.

- In order to guarantee an optimum fastening intake grip, it is advisable to clean the inside of the glass before removal.

- The film protects the dashboard from damage when removing the window glass.
Affix protective film -1- to the dashboard.

Select the required protective film -1- and slide it in between the windscreen and damping mat.

- To prevent damage, make sure that the vehicle identification number (VIN) is completely masked by the protective film when piercing the adhesive bead.
Pull cutting thread -B - into the passenger compartment.

Push through adhesive bead on the glass at the edge of the vehicle identification number -C - with the awl -A4- from the inside to the outside.
Pass cutting thread -B - through the eyelet on the awl -A4- .
Pull cutting thread -B - into the passenger compartment.
Pull cutting thread -B - out of the awl -A4- .
Pull cutting thread -B - approx. 1 m into the passenger compartment.

- The cutting thread should be positioned under the rim as far as possible. The sealing lip must be raised slightly in the upper part of the glass in order to pull the cutting thread through.
Insert cutting thread -B - into the gap in the glass.

Pull cutting thread -B - in -direction of arrow- into the gap between the glass and the body all the way around. Use A6 spatula if necessary.
Secure cutting thread -B - to the body.

Clamp the loose end of the cutting thread -B - firmly at a suitable point on the body using the fastening screw -2- for an add-on part (e.g. wiper motor fastening). To do this, loosen the fastening screw, wind the cutting thread -B - around the screw once and tighten the fastening screw -2- again.

Loosen clamping screw -3- .
Insert cutting thread -B - into the bore on the spooling device -A3- .
Clamp cutting thread -B - firmly with the clamping screw -A3- .

- The fastening force can be increased by moistening the fastening intake.
Fit spooling device -A3- and deflection rollers on the glass.

Position spooling device -A3- diagonally in the center of the glass.
Press spooling device -A3- firmly against the glass using the suction cups.
Secure suction cup to the glass by moving the actuating lever. > Fitting spooling device on the glass
Separate window glass as far as point -P1- .

Separate window glass by spooling the cutting thread on the spooling device as far as point -P1- .

- The fastening force can be increased by moistening the fastening intake.
Re-position spooling device. > Re-positioning spooling device

Release spooling device > Re-positioning spooling device .
Loosen the lower suction cup on the spooling device > Re-positioning spooling device .
Pull cutting thread through onto the other side of the suction cup. > Re-positioning spooling device
Secure suction cup to the glass by moving the actuating lever.

Press deflection roller with suction cup firmly against the glass. > Separating window glass
Secure suction cup to the glass by moving the actuating lever. > Separating window glass
Pass cutting thread over the deflection roller onto the spooling device. > Separating window glass
Separate glass by spooling the cutting thread on the spooling device as far as point -P2- .
