Removing Rear Window

CAUTION: Vehicle windows removed and installed incorrectly 
  • Danger of cuts 
  • Risk of eye injuries 
  1. → Wear personal protective gear.
  2. → Always shut off power, supply when replacing cutting knife.

Information 

  1. > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set  must be attached to the inside of the rear window.
  2. Unwind the cutting cord and cut it using side cutters.
  3. Use the scratch awl -1-  and the cutting cord to cut through the bead of adhesive from the inside out -arrow A-  .

  4. Pull out cutting cord -1-  from outside.

    Cutting cord

    Information 

    • Increase the fixing force of the suction cup by cleaning the window from the inside if necessary. 
  5. Remove rear window.
    1. 5.1  Insert the cutting cord into the bore on the spooling device.
    2. 5.2  Position spooling device at the centre of the glass and press suction cups firmly against the rear window.

    Information 

    • Make sure not to damage electric connections when removing the glass using cutting cord. 
    • Cut up to just before the connection. 
    • Slacken the cutting cord. 
    • Guide cutting cord past the connection on the inside. 
    • Counter with a scratch awl. 
    • Make sure that the cutting cord does not press against electric connections when removing the glass. 
    • Continue separating the window glass. 
  6. Cut out the rear window by winding the cutting cord onto the spooling device.

    Re-position the spooling device to reduce the tensile force of the cutting cord when removing the glass.

  7. Be careful of the seal -1-  at the sides. The cutting cord can damage the seal. Guide the cutting cord along underneath the seal.

  8. When cutting at the underside of the rear window press the cutting cord under the seal -2-  using an assembly wedge -Arrows-  . Coat the area -3-  with soapy water.

    Information 

    • Increase the fixing force of the suction cup by moistening it if necessary. 
  9. Affix the suction cup to the outside of the rear window and remove the rear window.
