The procedure for removing and installing is described for one side as an example. The procedure for the other side is almost identical.

One-piece or two-piece heat protection is installed, depending on engine type.
The one-piece heat protection is described here; the two-piece heat protection must also be completely removed.

Heat protection
1. 1.1 Unscrew screws on heat protection -2- .
2. 1.2 Remove heat protection -1- .
Loosen control arm -1- from wheel bearing housing -2- .

Control arm at wheel bearing housing
1. 2.1 Screw off nut on control arm joint pin -3- .
2. 2.2 Use > T10187 - ball joint puller to press axle joint off the wheel bearing housing -2- .
3. 2.3 Guide control arm -1- out of the wheel bearing housing -2- .
Remove drive shaft heat shield -1- .

1. 3.1 Unscrew screws for heat shield on drive shaft -2- .
2. 3.2 Remove drive shaft heat shield -1- .

Drive shaft
1. 4.1 Unscrew drive shaft screws -2- .
2. 4.2 Guide drive shaft -1- to the rear on the transmission side -Arrow- and pull it out of the wheel bearing housing.
3. 4.3 Guide out and remove the drive shaft -1- .
