Coding Airbag Triggering Unit
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
To prevent a malfunction of the airbag system, make sure that the vehicle data is correct before locking the airbag control unit. The vehicle data can no longer be corrected after locking the airbag control unit.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
Connect the tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
Select the vehicle type if necessary.
In the Overview , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu . Is a "Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" to be created? Press F11 to continue.
Select the Commission component protection function in the Additional menu . Follow instructions and procedure.
Select the gateway control unit (master).
Follow the instructions and notes on the tester.
Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
Select the Maintenance of vehicle data function in the Additional menu . Press F12 to continue.
Compare displayed values with vehicle equipment. Make changes if necessary. Press F12 to continue.
Go back to the overview.
In the Overview , select the Airbag control unit. Press F12 to continue.
Select Maintenance/repairs .
Select Locking mechanism . Press F12 to continue.
Follow the warnings and instructions on the tester. Press F8 to start.
Select Coding/programming .
Select Automatic programming .
Tester displays message: Programming successful.
If installed: Calibrate rear spoiler.

If installed: Calibrate panoramic roof and sun blind.

Establish bus idle.
Switch off ignition.
Disconnect the VCI module and tester from the vehicle.
Switch off and disconnect the battery charger.
Close all doors and covers.
Lock the vehicle.
Wait 2 minutes.
Unlock the vehicle and connect VCI module and Tester.
Connect a charger.
Switch on ignition.
Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
Switch ignition off and then on again. Check that the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on and then goes off again after a few seconds.
