Installing Front Seat

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: Incorrect handling of airbag units 
  • Triggering of airbag unit. 
  • System faults can occur. 
    1. → Switch off ignition and remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter).
    2. → A voltage supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.
    3. → Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
    4. → Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
    5. → Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
    6. → Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
    7. → Replace damaged parts during removal.
    8. → Always position airbag units so that the blow-out opening is facing upwards, e.g. crest on driver's airbag.
    9. → Do not position anything on the airbag units.
    10. → If removed for an extended period, the airbag units must be stored in a safe place.
    11. → Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
    12. → Do not expose airbag units to temperatures of more than 90°C.
    13. → Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
    14. → Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
    15. → Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.
WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts 
  • Danger of injury 
  • Loss of torque 
    1. → Always use new screws or nuts following removal.
    2. → Comply with instructions for repairs.
    3. → Observe specified tightening torques.
    4. → Carry out a visual inspection of parts used.
  1. Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:

    Tightening torque for front fastening screws: > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) 

    Tightening torque for rear fastening screws: > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
