Installing Lower Chain Housing Cover (V6 Turbo)
Information
If a cylinder-head gasket is kinked or damaged, it must be replaced.
- Checking cylinder-head gasket for damage.
Information
Sealing surfaces must be clean and free of grease.
Never use mechanical tools to clean the sealing faces.
- Cleaning sealing faces.
Information
- The liquid sealant Loctite 5970-BM must be used.
- The bead of sealant you apply must not be thicker than the prescribed thickness. Excess sealant can block the lubrication system.
- Sealant must not get into the threaded bores.
- The chain housing cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.
- Carefully apply a continuous bead of sealant -1-
with a thickness of 3 mm all the way around on the sealing face of the chain housing cover.

Tightening sequence for lower chain housing cover
- 4.1
Positioning lower chain housing cover, but do not press it on yet.
Checking that the dowel sleeves are fitted correctly.
- 4.2
Replacing screws for lower chain housing cover.
- 4.2.1 Replacing aluminum screws with steel screws.
- 4.3 Fitting new screws on lower chain housing cover -1 to 20- and screwing in uniformly as far as they will go by hand.
- 4.4
Tightening screws for lower chain housing cover in the specified tightening sequence.
Screws for lower chain housing cover -20- :
> Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
Screws for lower chain housing cover -1 to 19- :
> Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
Screws for lower chain housing cover -20- :
> Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
Screws for lower chain housing cover -1 to 19- :
> Final tightening + 90°
Screws for lower chain housing cover -20- :
> Final tightening + 90°
