Cleaning Water Drains On Sunroof

Information
The procedure for cleaning the sunroof water drain is described in general and must be adapted to the respective vehicle.
The following requirements must be met before cleaning the water drains on the sunroof:
- The front water drains are accessible at the top when the sunroof panel is open or at the bottom at the drain.
- The rear water drains are accessible at the top when the sunroof panel is removed or at the bottom at the drain.
- Accessibility must be provided by appropriate preliminary work if necessary.
Cleaning is performed using a > VAS 6620A - cleaning aid.

- Remove any heavy soiling from the bushes at the drain outlet and where the water drain enters the sunroof.
- Clean water drain on sunroof from above.
- 2.1 Only for front drains: Press the air deflector down and hold it in position.
- 2.2 Roughly estimate the length of the sunroof water drain from the outside and mark it on the cleaning coil to know when the coil will emerge from the other end of the water drain.

To protect the intake of the sunroof water drain, insert protective tubes -1-
half-way into the inlet -Arrow-

Insert cleaning coil -1-
as far as possible into the sunroof water drain by hand -Arrow-
. Always hold protective tubes -2-
firmly in place. Pour water with washing-up liquid -3-
into the water drain inlet for support.
Cleaning coils

If the cleaning coil cannot be inserted further into the sunroof water drain by hand and has not yet emerged from the other end, drive the > VAS 6620A - cleaning aid
further using a battery-powered screwdriver.
Driving cleaning coil
- 2.5.1 > VAS 6620A - Clamp cleaning aid with support -1- in the battery-powered screwdriver.
- 2.5.2 Lock the cleaning coil in place to a maximum > Length 10 cm -A - between the protective tubes -2- and the lock of the cleaning coil -3- .
- 2.5.3 Drive the > VAS 6620A - cleaning aid slowly farther into the water drain using a battery-powered screwdriver, exerting slight pressure -Arrows- , until it contacts the protective tubes -2- .
- 2.5.4 Loosen the lock -3- and repeat the procedure until the cleaning coil emerges from the lower end.
- 2.6 > VAS 6620A - Pull cleaning aid out of the sunroof water drain slowly and carefully by hand, turning if necessary, and push it back into the coil container.
- 2.7 Flush the water drain on the sunroof with water and repeat the cleaning process if necessary until all of the water emerges in the shortest time possible.
- Clean water drain on sunroof from below.
- 3.1 Roughly estimate the length of the sunroof water drain from the outside and mark it on the cleaning coil to know when the coil will emerge from the other end of the water drain.
- 3.2 Only for drain bushes without valve:
Use a suitable tool to remove dirt from drain bush -1-
and open passage through it -2-

- 3.3 Only for drain bush with valve:
Open the valve -1-
outwards and use a suitable tool -3-
to remove dirt from the drain bush -2-
and open passage through it. Make sure not to press the valve inwards during cleaning.

To protect the drain bush -1-
for the sunroof water drain, insert protective tubes -2-
half-way into the drain bush -Arrow-

Insert cleaning coil -1-
as far as possible through sunroof water drain -2-
by hand -Arrow-
. Always hold protective tubes -3-
firmly in place. Have a second person help with cleaning and if necessary, pour water with washing-up liquid into the water drain from above.

If the cleaning coil cannot be inserted further into the sunroof water drain by hand and has not yet emerged from the other end, drive the > VAS 6620A - cleaning aid
further using a battery-powered screwdriver.
Driving cleaning coil
- 3.6.1 > VAS 6620A - Clamp cleaning aid with support -1- in the battery-powered screwdriver.
- 3.6.2 Lock the cleaning coil in place to a maximum > Length 10 cm -A - between the protective tubes -2- and the lock of the cleaning coil -3- .
- 3.6.3 Drive the > VAS 6620A - cleaning aid farther into the sunroof water drain slowly and carefully with a battery - powered screwdriver, exerting slight pressure -Arrows- , until it contacts the protective tubes -2- .
- 3.6.4 Release the lock -3- and repeat the procedure until the cleaning coil emerges from the upper end.
- 3.7 > VAS 6620A - Pull cleaning aid out of the sunroof water drain slowly and carefully by hand, turning if necessary, and push it back into the coil container.
- 3.8 Flush the water drain on the sunroof with water and repeat the cleaning process if necessary until all of the water emerges in the shortest time possible.
