Disassembling Engine

Information 

Information 

For many components, it is only necessary to partially disassemble the engine. The extent of disassembly depends on the damage and scope of repairs to be carried out.

  1. Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
  2. Mark vacuum hoses so that they cannot get mixed up.
  3. Remove turbocharger.

    V6 monoturbo:

    V6 biturbo: 

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  4. Remove high-pressure pump.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  5. Remove upper chain housing cover.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  6. Remove ignition coils.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  7. Remove spark plugs.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  8. Remove oil separator.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  9. Remove oil filter housing.

    V6 monoturbo: 

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

    V6 biturbo: 

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  10. Remove oil/water heat exchanger.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  11. Remove piston spray nozzle control valve.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  12. Remove fuel collection pipe.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  13. Remove fuel injectors.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  14. Remove solenoid hydraulic valves for valve lift adjustment.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  15. Remove tank vent valve.

    V6 monoturbo:

    V6 biturbo:

  16. Remove drive belt.

  17. Remove air-conditioning compressor.

    V6 Turbo:

    V6 Hybrid:

  18. Remove generator.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  19. Remove air-conditioning compressor bracket -5-  .

    1. 19.1 Remove tensioning roller -3-  .
      1. 19.1.1 Carefully lever off dust boot -1-  using a suitable tool.
      2. 19.1.2 Unscrew screw on tensioning roller -2-  .
      3. 19.1.3 Remove tensioning roller -3-  .
    2. 19.2 Unscrew screws on air-conditioning compressor bracket -4-  .
    3. 19.3 Remove air-conditioning compressor bracket -5-  .
  20. Remove generator bracket -1-  .

    Generator bracket

    1. 20.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .
    2. 20.2 Remove generator bracket -1-  .

    1. 21.1 Carefully lever off dust boot -2-  using a suitable tool.
    2. 21.2 Unscrew screw on deflection roller -3-  .
    3. 21.3 Remove deflection roller -1-  .
  22. Remove crankshaft vibration damper.

  23. Remove drive plate.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  24. Remove hall-sender rotor.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  25. Remove oil pressure control valve.

  26. Remove intake-air distributor.

  27. Remove oil pan.

  28. Remove oil guide housing.

  29. Remove oil pump.

    Oil plate

    1. 30.1 Unscrew screws for oil windage tray -1 and 3-  .
    2. 30.2 Remove oil windage tray -2-  from cylinder block.
  31. Remove lower chain housing cover.

  32. Remove crankcase cover.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  33. Remove coolant pump.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  34. Remove coolant regulator (thermostat insert).

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  35. Remove coolant control valve -3-  .

    Coolant control valve

    1. 35.1 Pull off vacuum hose -1-  .
    2. 35.2 Unscrew screws on coolant control valve -2-  and pull coolant control valve -3-  off the coolant pipe -4-  .
  36. Remove coolant flanges on left and right cylinder bank.

    Coolant flanges

    1. 36.1 Remove screws -1 to 3-  .
    2. 36.2 Remove coolant flanges.
  37. Remove brake booster vacuum pump.

    V6 monoturbo:

  38. Remove timing chain.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  39. Remove chain tensioner.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  40. Remove guide and tensioning rails.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  41. Remove both cylinder head covers.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  42. Remove camshafts from the cylinder head covers.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  43. Remove both cylinder heads.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  44. Disassemble cylinder heads.
    1. 44.1 Remove valve lifters (hydraulic tappets).

      Refer to the appropriate service information.

    2. 44.2 Remove valves.

      Refer to the appropriate service information.

    3. 44.3 Remove valve-stem seals.

      Refer to the appropriate service information.

  45. Remove balance shaft.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  46. Remove crankshaft.

  47. Remove pistons and connecting rods.

  48. Remove piston spray nozzles -2-  .
