Preliminary Work

Information 

• Photos taken with a digital camera are helpful for dealing with complicated line routing (engine wire harness). 
• For details, see  WM, 975219 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE WIRE HARNESS (V6 TURBO)  . 

1. Remove chain housing cover.

   > 153319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHAIN HOUSING COVER

2. Only for cylinders 5-8:  Remove vacuum pump.

   > WM, 477619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP (V8 BITURBO)

3. Remove pressure pipes.

   > 214119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PRESSURE PIPE (V8 BITURBO)

4. Remove guide for oil dipstick.
5. Loosen tank ventilation sensor (USA) or dummy (cylinders 1 -4) -1-  .

   Tank ventilation sensor (cylinders 1-4)

   1. 5.1  Unscrew and remove fastening screw -2-  .
   2. 5.2  Release and disconnect electric plua connection -3-  .
   3. 5.3  Loosen tank ventilation sensor (USA) or dummy -1-  together with vent line -5-  from holder -4-  .
6. Loosen chanae-over valve for water pump -3-  and remove holder.
