Preliminary Work

  1. Remove engine with transmission.

    > 100119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE

  2. Unclip engine wire harness at the relevant points and release and disconnect cable plugs.

    > 975219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE WIRE HARNESS

  3. Remove oil separator.

    > 105519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL SEPARATOR (V8 BITURBO) - "Removing"

  4. Remove tank vent valve with lines.

    > 202319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TANK VENT VALVE (V8 BITURBO) - "Removing"

  5. Remove ignition coils.

    > 282020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING IGNITION COILS (V8 BITURBO) - "Removing"

  6. Remove spark plugs.

    > 287020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SPARK PLUGS - on "Removing"

  7. Remove catalytic converter.

    > 267319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CATALYTIC CONVERTER (V8 BITURBO) - on "Removing"

  8. Remove heat shield on the -1-  cylinder head on the left and right.

    Heat shield on cylinder head (illustration shows right side only)

    1. 8.1  Unscrew screws -2-  .
    2. 8.2  Unscrew screws -3-  on the engine eyelet.
    3. 8.3  Remove -1-  heat shields.
  9. Remove fuel line (high-pressure pump to rail).

    > 249019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL LINE (V8 BITURBO) - "Removing"

  10. Remove fuel collection pipe.

    > WM, 243019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL COLLECTION PIPE (V8 BITURBO)

  11. Remove high-pressure pump.

    > 246319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP (V8 BITURBO) - "Removing"

    1. 11.1  Remove tappets -1-  using a magnet.

  12. Remove solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment.

    > 155519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SOLENOID HYDRAULIC VALVE FOR VALVE LIFT ADJUSTMENT (V8 BITURBO)  - "Removing"

  13. Remove fuel injectors.

    > 244019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INJECTOR VALVE (INJECTOR) - on "Removing"

  14. Remove upper chain housing cover.

    > 153319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING UPPER CHAIN HOUSING COVER (V8 BITURBO)  - "Removing"

    1. 14.1  Remove supply line - section from engine to high-pressure pumps.

      > 203819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SUPPLY LINE (V8 BITURBO)

  15. Removing camshaft actuator.

    > 158419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR (INCLUDES SETTING TIMING)  - "Removing"

  16. Only cylinder bank 2: 

    Remove brake booster vacuum pump.

    > 477619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP (V8 BITURBO)

  17. Only cylinder bank 2: 

    Removing hall sender input.

    > WM, 283919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFT SENSOR (V8 BITURBO)

  18. Only cylinder bank 2: 

    Remove guide for oil dipstick.

  19. Remove the cylinder head cover.

    > 158219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CYLINDER HEAD COVER  - on "Removing".

  20. Remove valve lifter (hydraulic tappet) and valve lever.

    > WM, 155920 REMOVING AND INSTALLING VALVE LIFTERS (HYDRAULIC TAPPETS)  .

  21. Remove bypass flap control box.

    > 216719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BYPASS FLAP CONTROL BOX (V8 BITURBO)
