Installing Valves
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Insert valves at their original position in the cylinder head and secure with adhesive tape to prevent them from slipping out.
- Position cylinder head on the > VAS 6419 - cylinder head tensioning device again and tighten it.
- Fit air cushions on the relevant valve discs.
Cylinder head tensioning device
- 3.1 > VAS 6419 - Cylinder head tensioning device must now be connected to compressed air.
- 3.2 Using the lever -Arrow- , push the air cushion under the combustion chamber on which you want to install the valves.
- 3.3 Let compressed air flow into the air cushion until it is touching the valve discs.
- Pick up valve keys with assembly cartridge VAS 5161/8A.

Insert valve keys into the insertion device VAS 5161/18.
- 4.1.1 The large diameter of the valve keys must be facing upwards.
- 4.2 Press assembly cartridge VAS 5161/8A onto the valve keys from above and pick up the valve keys.

Insert valve keys into the insertion device VAS 5161/18.
- Insert valve springs and valve-spring plates in their original position. Observe installation positions.
- 5.1 Installation position of valve springs - intake valve: The closely spaced spring coils are facing down towards the cylinder head.
- 5.2 Installation position of valve springs - outlet valve: The colored markings must be facing upwards.
- > VAS 5161A/43 - Guide plate must now be secured to the cylinder head.
- Insert assembly cartridge VAS 5161/8A into the > VAS 5161A/43 - guide plate .
- Install valve keys.
- 8.1 Press pressure fork VAS 5161/2 down, pull knurled screw on the assembly cartridge VAS 5161/8A upwards by turning it back and forth, thereby inserting the valve collets.
- 8.2 Relieve pressure on the pressure fork VAS 5161/2 whilst pulling in the knurled screw.
- 8.3 Continue in the same way for the remaining valves.
- Remove cylinder head from > VAS 6419 - cylinder head tensioning device and remove special tool from the cylinder head.
