Removing Upper Chain Housing Cover - Cylinder Bank 1

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of Are or explosion 
    • → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    • → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.
    • → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    • → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    • → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

  • Danger of poisoning or suffocation 
  • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin 
    • → Ventilate the work area well.
    • → Never ingest or inhale.
    • → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
    • → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.
  1. Loosen holder for additional coolant pumps is -1 and 3-  .

    Holder for additional coolant pumps

    1. 1.1  Unscrew nuts -2-  .
    2. 1.2  Remove additional coolant pump holder -3-  .
    3. 1.3  Unscrew double-screws -4-  and carefully press additional coolant pump holder -1-  aside.
  2. Detach upper chain housing cover -1-  .

    Upper chain housing cover - cylinder bank 1

    1. 2.1  Unscrew screw for coolant pipe -2-  .
    2. 2.2  Unscrew nuts on line bracket -3-  and set wiring harness aside.
    3. 2.3  Unscrew screws on upper chain housing cover -4-  .
    4. 2.4  Release and disconnect electric plug connections for actuators for camshaft controllers -5-  .
    5. 2.5  Unclip clip on electric line for oxygen sensor -6-  .
  3. Loosen upper chain housing cover -1-  from the bonding.

    Upper chain housing cover

    1. 3.1  Secure upper chain housing cover -1-  to prevent it from falling down.
    2. 3.2  Carefully heat sealing faces on upper chain housing cover -1-  using a hot-air gun.

      Make sure not to damage any add-on parts with hot air!

    3. 3.3  Carefully insert a suitable tool at the press-off tabs -Arrows-  on the upper chain housing cover -1-  .
    4. 3.4  Carefully lever upper chain housing cover -1-  off the cylinder head.
