Installing Lower Chain Housing Cover

Information 

Fitting and sealing components using liquid sealant. 

• Clean sealing faces to remove all traces of residual sealant. 
• Sealing faces must be free of grease and oil. 
• Clean sealing faces with primer Loctite 7515. 
• Use liquid sealant Loctite 5970-BM. 

Information 

Sealing surfaces must be clean and free of grease.

Never use mechanical tools to clean the sealing faces.

Information 

Sealant must not get into the threaded bores.

Information 

If a cylinder-head gasket is kinked or damaged, it must be replaced.

1. Check cylinder-head gasket for damage and replace it if necessary.
2. Clean sealing faces thoroughly and apply sealant Loctite 5970-BM -1-  .

   Lower chain housing cover

   1. 3.1  Carefully fit lower chain housing cover on the crankcase.
   2. 3.2  Screw in screws on lower chain housing cover -1 to.19-  evenly.
4. Screw in and tighten screws securing cylinder head to lower chain housing cover -1-  on both cylinder banks.

   > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) 

   > Torque angle 25°

5. Screw in lower chain housing cover screws evenly and tighten in the sequence -1 to 19-  .

   > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)

6. Installing coolant pipe -1 and 2-  .

   Coolant pipes on engine/transmission

   1. 6.1  Position coolant pipe -2-  with new  O-rings.
   2. 6.2  Fit spring band clamp -4-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
   3. 6.3  Screw in and tighten screws -5- 

      > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 

   4. 6.4  Position coolant pipe -1-  with new O-rings. 
   5. 6.5  Screw in and tighten screws -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
