WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Information
Distinguishing features of the camshafts:
- The outlet camshaft has high-pressure pump cams.
- The intake camshaft has a sensor wheel on the shaft end piece.
- Cylinder bank 1: The camshaft has sliding cams on cylinders 2 and 3.
- Cylinder bank 2: The camshaft has sliding cams on cylinders 5 and 8.
Information
Allocation of bearing covers to the cylinder head cover:
- The bearing covers and cylinder head covers are marked with unique (three-digit) matching numbers.
- On the cylinder head cover, the last three digits of the clear text marking are relevant for the matching allocation.
- This matching number is used to allocate the bearing covers clearly to a specific cylinder head cover.

Tightening sequence for camshaft bearing cover
- 1.1 Oil the bearing surfaces of the camshafts with new engine oil. When rebuilding the engine, apply Optimol Optipit grease (Part No. 000.043.204.17) on the bearing locations.
- 1.2
Insert axial bearing washers ahead of the camshafts in the center bearing in the cylinder head cover.
Information
- The housings are marked E for intake camshaft and A for outlet camshaft. The housings are numbered consecutively by cylinder.
- The bearing covers are seated very securely in the cylinder head cover because of a dowel sleeve. Carefully jiggle free using a pliers if necessary. Place on a marked, clean surface.
- The bearing covers are allocated to the respective cylinder head cover by a three-digit number. On the cylinder head cover, the last three digits of the clear text marking are relevant for the matching allocation.
- 1.3
Insert camshafts without tension into the cylinder head covers.
- 1.3.1 Fit camshaft bearing covers at the required positions and check marking for intake and outlet camshafts and cylinder allocation at the same time!
- 1.3.2 Replace camshaft bearing cover screws -1 to 20- .
- 1.3.3
Fit new camshaft bearing cover screws by hand and tighten in the sequence -1 to 20-
.
