Installing Crankshaft

- Install new bearing shells -1-

Bearing shell
- 1.1 Choose new bearing shells -1- with the correct colour marking in accordance with the table.
- 1.2 Coat bearing shells -1- with oil.
- 1.3 Insert bearing shells -1- on the relevant crankshaft bearing and bearing cover and make sure that the guide lugs -2 and 3- are fitted correctly.
- Coat bearing locations with oil and carefully insert crankshaft -1-
into the crankcase -2-
with the help of another person.
Crankshaft
- Insert thrust washers -1 and 2-
at he 4th crankshaft bearing.
Thrust washers on crankshaft bearing 4
- 3.1 Coat thrust washers -1 and 2- with oil.
- 3.2 Insert upper thrust washer (crankcase) -2- into the crankcase in such a way that the lubricating grooves are facing the crankshaft.
- 3.3 Insert lower thrust washer (bearing cover) -1- into the bearing cover in such a way that the lubricating grooves are facing the crankshaft.
- Install crankshaft bearing covers.

Tightening sequence for bearing cover
- 4.1 Check that the bearing shells are seated correctly in the crankshaft bearing cover.
- 4.2 Check dowel sleeves for damage, check that they are fitted correctly and replace them if necessary.
- 4.3 Move crankshaft bearing cover into installation position.
- 4.4
Fit screws -1 to 30-
and tighten in the following sequence:
- 4.4.1 Screws -1 to 20- > Tightening torque 15 Nm (11 ftlb.)
- 4.4.2 Screws -1 to 20- > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
- 4.4.3 Screws -1 to 20- > Torque angle + 200°
- 4.4.4 Loosen screws -1 to 20- : > Torque angle 720°
- 4.4.5 Screws -1 to 20- > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
- 4.4.6 Screws -1 to 20- > Torque angle 70°
- 4.4.7 Screws -21 to 30- > Initial tightening 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
- 4.4.8 Screws -21 to 30- > Final tightening + 50°
