Removing Glass Roof

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Porsche Cayenne and 2020 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Information 

The upper and lower part of the spoiler fins must be easy to remove and fit.

They must not be fitted using force.

The upper part of the spoiler fin must lock with an audible click during fitting.

Information 

If it is difficult to position > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set  correctly for removing the glass, the cutting cord can be deflected into the bores on the bodyshell using a suitable tool.

Information 

Two people are required  on both sides of the vehicle in order to remove and fit the glass roof on the body.

There must  be four people  at the vehicle in order to remove and fit the glass roof.

  1. Remove spoiler fins -1 and 3-

    Spoiler fins

    1. 1.1  Remove upper part of spoiler fin
      1. 1.1.1  Press locking tab -2-  down through the cut-out.
      2. 1.1.2  Push upper part of spoiler fin -1-  forward and remove it.
    2. 1.2  Remove lower part of spoiler fin -3-  .
      1. 1.2.1  Unscrew and remove screws -4-  .
      2. 1.2.2  Remove lower part of spoiler fin -3-  together with clamping washer -5-  by pulling it upwards.
  2. Pull side seals -1-  off the glass roof.

    1. 2.1  Perform a visual inspection of the side seals -1-  and replace them if they are damaged.
  3. Disconnect roof wire harness -1-  .

    1. 3.1  Unclip clips on roof wire harness -2-  .
    2. 3.2  Unclip holder for electric plug connections -3-  .
    3. 3.3  Move roof wire harness -1-  aside and secure it at a suitable position with adhesive tape.
  4. Cut bonding on glass roof at the rear and right.

    Bonding on glass roof, rear and right

    1. 4.1  Pierce adhesive bead -1-  at the rear left in area -A- from the outside in  using an awl.
    2. 4.2  Guide cutting cord -2-  into the passenger compartment with the awl.
    3. 4.3  Route the cutting cord -2-  in such a way that it is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  .

      Make sure that the cutting cord -2-  is wound around the pins -4-  .

    4. 4.4  Position roller from the > VAS 861 001A - window removal set -3-  so that the cutting cord -2-  is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  even when winding it up.
    5. 4.5  Secure the end of the cutting cord -2-  .
    6. 4.6  Wind up the cutting cord -2-  until the adhesive beads -1-  in the area are severed.
    7. 4.7  > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set -3-  can now be removed.

    1. 5.1  Route the cutting cord -2-  in such a way that it is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  .
    2. 5.2  Position roller from the > VAS 861 001A - window removal set -3-  so that the cutting cord -2-  is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  even when winding it up.
    3. 5.3  Secure the end of the cutting cord -2-  .
    4. 5.4  Wind up the cutting cord -2-  until the adhesive beads -1-  in the area are severed.
    5. 5.5  > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set -3-  can now be removed.

    1. 6.1  Pull end of the cutting cord -2-  forward under the roof.
    2. 6.2  With the cutting cord -2-  and awl approx. 80 mm  away from the edge of the roof, pierce adhesive bead from the outside in  (-1-  ).
    3. 6.3  Route the cutting cord -2-  in such a way that it is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  .

      Make sure that the cutting cord -2-  is wound around the pins -4-  .

    4. 6.4  Position roller from the > VAS 861 001A - window removal set -3-  so that the cutting cord -2-  is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  even when winding it up.
    5. 6.5  Secure the end of the cutting cord -2-  .
    6. 6.6  Wind up the cutting cord -2-  until the adhesive beads -1-  in the area are severed.
    7. 6.7  > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set -3-  can now be removed.

    1. 7.1  Pull front end of the cutting cord -2-  towards the rear of the vehicle.
    2. 7.2  Pull the end of the cutting cord -2-  at the rear end forward under the roof and route it from back to front in the water channel, parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  to make a loop.
    3. 7.3  Position roller from the > VAS 861 001A - window removal set -3-  so that the cutting cord -2-  is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  even when winding it up.
    4. 7.4  Secure the end of the cutting cord -2-  .
    5. 7.5  Wind up the cutting cord -2-  until the adhesive beads -1-  are severed.
    6. 7.6  > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set -3-  can now be removed.

    1. 8.1  Pull front end of the cutting cord -2-  towards the rear of the vehicle.
    2. 8.2  Pull the end of the cutting cord -2-  at the rear end forward under the roof and route it from back to front in the water channel, parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  to make a loop.
    3. 8.3  Position roller from the > VAS 861 001A - window removal set -3-  so that the cutting cord -2-  is parallel to the adhesive bead -1-  even when winding it up.
    4. 8.4  Secure the end of the cutting cord -2-  .
    5. 8.5  Wind up the cutting cord -2-  until the adhesive beads -1-  are severed.
    6. 8.6  > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set -3-  can now be removed.
  9. Remove glass roof.
    1. 9.1  Remove glass roof with the help of two people on each side of the vehicle  using suction cups.
