Adjusting Rear Lid At The Top

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the roof trim panel does not buckle.
IMPORTANT:
  • Set gap dimensions on the lids, doors and covers, or accessories in accordance with the gap specifications. 
  • Given a clearance in the openings that is too great or too small, the movable body parts or the accessories must be centred accordingly. 
  • Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points. 
  • You can use  > VAS 6936 - Adjusting gauge  , > VAS 6937 - Adjusting gauge  , > VAS 6938 - Adjusting gauge  for this.
  • The given values are guidelines, which should be observed as far as possible. 
  • The guidelines apply to repair and assembly work. 
  1. Check body gap dimensions.
  2. Loosen fastening screws -1-  securing hinge to rear lid on both sides so that the rear lid can still be moved.

  3. Adjust the height of the rear lid by moving the rear lid and ensure that the gap between the rear lid and roof is parallel. > Gap dimension 5.5 mm + 1.5 mm - 0.5 mm  > Gap dimension -1.2 mm + 1 mm - 0.5 mm 
  4. Tighten fastening screws -1-  to > Tightening torque 12 N.m (9 ft.lb)  until secure.

  5. Lower the rear roof trim panel until the nuts on the hinge are accessible.

  6. Adjust gap dimension of rear lid with respect to the roof.

    Fastening nut

    1. 6.1  Loosen fastening nuts securing hinge -1-  to roof at the rear on both sides so that the rear lid can still be moved.
    2. 6.2  Close the rear lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) and check the gap dimension.
    3. 6.3  Adjust the gap dimension of the rear lid with respect to the roof by moving the rear lid. > Gap dimension 5.5 mm + 1.5 mm - 0.5 mm  > Gap dimension -1.2 mm + 1 mm - 0.5 mm 
    4. 6.4  Screw on fastening nuts -1-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 23 N.m (17 ft.lb)
