Adjusting Rear Lid At The Bottom

IMPORTANT:

Set gap dimensions on the lids, doors and covers, or accessories in accordance with the gap specifications.
Given a clearance in the openings that is too great or too small, the movable body parts or the accessories must be centred accordingly.
Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points.
You can use > VAS 6936 - Adjusting gauge . > VAS 6937 - Adjusting gauge . > VAS 6938 - Adjusting gauge for this.
The given values are guidelines, which should be observed as far as possible.
The guidelines apply to repair and assembly work.

IMPORTANT:

The adjusting elements must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely.
The preload must be the same on the left and right.

Remove lower part of rear lid lock.

Adjust the joint between the rear lid and side panel and rear apron.

2.2 Loosen fastening screws -1- and push adjusting elements -2- down as far as they will go -arrow A- .

2.4 Adjust the joint between the rear lid and rear apron by pushing the adjusting elements up or down. > Gap dimension 1 mm + 1.4 mm -1.8 mm > Gap dimension 3.5 mm +/-1 mm > Gap dimension 4 mm +/-1 mm > Gap dimension 0.7 mm + 0.6 mm -1.1 mm
2.5 Tighten fastening screws on adjusting elements to > Tightening torque 6 N.m (4.5 ft.lb)

Adjust the offset between the rear lid and side panel and rear apron.

Adjusting pads
1. 3.1 Screw adjusting pads -3- in fully -arrow B- .
2. 3.2 Adjust the joint between the rear lid and side panel by screwing the adjusting pads in or out. > Gap dimension 1 mm + 1.4 mm -1.8 mm > Gap dimension 3.5 mm +/-1 mm > Gap dimension 4 mm +/-1 mm > Gap dimension 0.7 mm + 0.6 mm -1.1 mm
3. 3.3 Close the rear lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area), check gap dimensions and then open the rear lid again.
Adjust lower part of rear lid lock -2- .

Lower part of rear lid lock
1. 4.1 Insert lower part of rear lid lock -2- and screw in fastening screws -1- so that the lower part of the rear lid lock can still be moved.
2. 4.2 Close the rear lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) until the rear lid lock engages -2- .
3. 4.3 Open the rear lid.
4. 4.4 Screwin fastening screws -1- for lower part of rear lid lock -2- and tighten to > Tightening torque 21 N.m (16 ft.lb)
Check adjustment at the top and bottom.

Strip of paper
1. 5.1 Hold a strip of paper -1- on the sealing surface.
2. 5.2 Close the rear lid -2- .
3. 5.3 To check this, test-drive the vehicle on an uneven stretch of road (bad road surface) during approval.
  IMPORTANT:
  - It should still be possible to pull the paper strip out when the rear lid is closed. If the paper strip can be pulled out easily or cannot be pulled out at all, correct the preload on the adjusting elements.
4. 5.4 Check adjustment by pulling out the strip of paper -1- .
