- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
- → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
The onboard operating instructions are downloaded from the backend for each specific vehicle. The Tester must be connected online in order to do this.
A blank SD card is required for installing the onboard operating instructions (approx. 100 MB). If there is already data stored on the SD card, this will be deleted during the procedure.

The USB storage medium USB type A+C 32 GB with part number V04014999WW000 must be used for installation using an USB stick.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
- Insert a blank SD card into the Tester.
Use USB stick from MY 22 (MIB 3).
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- Select the Central computer (PCM) control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Select Maintenance/repairs .
- Select Install Manual in the PCM.
Press F12 to continue.
- 6.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
- 6.2 Select the required language.
- 6.3 Perform installation of onboard operating instructions in accordance with menu guidance. Press F8 to continue.
- Remove SD card/USB stick from the Tester and insert into the central computer (slot 1)/USB slot on the centre console. Press F12 to continue.
- 7.1 Install onboard operating instructions according to menu guidance.
- Remove SD card/USB stick. Press F12 to continue.
- Check the front display and operator control unit to see whether the onboard operating instructions were installed on the central computer.
- 9.1 Select the SET menu in the front display and operator control unit.
- 9.2 Driver's Manual must be selected.
- 9.3 Check whether the onboard operating instructions were installed.
- Read out all fault memories, work through faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memories.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
