Remove Fuel Tank
WARNING:
Highly inflammable or explosive materials
- Danger of fire or explosion
- → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
- → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
- → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
- → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
- → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
WARNING:
Caustic fluids
- Danger of chemical burns
- → Wear personal protective gear.
- → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
- → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
- → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
- Remove cover -1-

- Disconnect connections at the fuel pump unit -1-
.
Fuel pump unit connections
- 2.1 Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections and connection openings.
- 2.2 Release and disconnect lines -2- .
- 2.3 Soak up any emerging fuel using suitable aids.
- 2.4 Close off line connections and connection openings using suitable stoppers.
- 2.5 Release and disconnect electric plug connections -3- .
- Remove protective cover -1-

Protective cover
- 3.1 Unclip clips -2- .
- 3.2 Disconnect ground line -3- .
- 3.3 Screw off nut -4- .
- 3.4 Unscrew screws -5- and pull threaded plug off protective cover -1- .
- 3.5 Remove protective cover -1- .
- Loosen fuel filler tube -1-

- 4.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2- .
- Expose fuel tank -1-

Fuel tank
- 5.1 Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections and connection openings.
- 5.2 Release and disconnect line -2- .
- 5.3 Close off line connection and connection opening using a suitable stopper.
- 5.4 Loosen spring band clamp -3- using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers and pull off line -4- .
- 5.5 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -5- .
- Support the fuel tank -1-
using a suitable base -2-
and > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack-3-

You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.
- Remove the fuel tank -1-
.
Fuel tank mount
- 7.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2 and 3- .
- 7.2 Carefully lower the fuel tank -1- using > VAS 6931 - transmission and engine jack while another person holds the fuel tank -1- securely.
- 7.3 Remove fuel tank -1- and restraining straps -4- from the > VAS 6931 - transmission and engine jack .
