Removing And Installing Optical Contacts On Connector Side

1. Guide release tool from > VAS 1978/35-33 - release tool set  into the opening on the secondary lock and lift up the locking mechanism -Arrow-  until the lock engages at its top position.

2. Fit release tool from > VAS 1978/35-33 - release tool set  on the primary lock and lift up the locking mechanism.

   Information 

   If it is not possible to pull out the optical waveguides, check again that the secondary lock is completely unlocked and that the primary lock is raised sufficiently.

3. Carefully pull out optical waveguides -A and B- (-arrow-)  .

4. Check locking mechanisms, connector housing and contacts for possible damage and replace damaged parts if necessary.

   Information 

   • New electric lines are secured at the mounting points for the old electric lines. 
   • The damaged electric wire harness remains installed in the vehicle. 
   • The damaged electric wire harness is only disconnected directly at connected components. 

   Information 

   • Do not damage the insulation on the optical waveguides during installation. 

   Information 

   The range of spare parts available for optical waveguides depends on equipment. There is a specific set containing the individual optical waveguides to suit the equipment in the vehicle.

Select the required optical waveguide and remove it from the set.

1. Insulate damaged optical waveguide and tie it to the main wire harness.
2. Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.

   1. 2.1  Unclip line bracket -3-  for main wire harness for luggage compartment at the right.
   2. 2.2  Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.
   3. 2.3  Clip in line bracket -3-  for main wire harness for luggage compartment at the right.
3. Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.

   Right cable duct

   1. 3.1  Open clips -2-  for cable duct -1-  at the rear right door sill.
   2. 3.2  Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.
   3. 3.3  Close cable duct -1-  at the right door sill.
4. Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.

   Right cable duct

   1. 4.1  Unclip cable duct at the right -2-  from the inner sill -arrow A-  and -arrow B-  .
   2. 4.2  Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.
   3. 4.3  Clip in cable duct at the right -2-  on inner sill.
5. Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.

   Main wire harness

   1. 5.1  Unclip line bracket -1-  and set main wire harness -2-  down in the footwell.
   2. 5.2  Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness.
   3. 5.3  Clip in line bracket -1-  .
6. Route new optical waveguide to electric plug connections in the passenger footwell -1-  and secure it to the main wire harness -2-  .

7. Secure new optical waveguide to main wire harness for dashboard -1 and 2-  .
