Preliminary Work: Overview

Information 

• Only make cuts in the top plate. Make sure not to damage the plate underneath when doing this. 

1. Removing side section rear.

   > 535555 REPLACING SIDE SECTION REAR  - section on "Removing"

2. Remove D-pillar reinforcement (section).

   > 53305505 REPLACING D-PILLAR REINFORCEMENT (SECTION)  - section on "Removing"

3. Remove lock support panel on the damaged side.

   Joints

   1. 3.1  Unscrew self-tapping screw -1- 
   2. 3.2  Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - body dent removal unit, aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .

      > 5X00IN23 REPLACE PUNCH RIVETS AND PENETRATED JOINTS

   3. 3.3  Damaged side:

      Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .

      Bonding areas

   4. 3.4  Remaining removal steps as described in Workshop Service Information .

      > 530955 Replacing lock support panel - section on "Removing"

4. Remove end plate for cross member.

   Joint points (connecting plate)

   1. 4.1  Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-  .
   2. 4.2  Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - body dent removal unit, aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .

      > 5X00IN23 REPLACE PUNCH RIVETS AND PENETRATED JOINTS

   3. 4.3  Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .

   4. 4.4  Remove end plate for cross member.
