Possible Separation Points

Information 

Cuts can be made in defined areas in the outer side member due to the parts dimensions. The purpose of the different cuts is to keep the repair area as small as possible in the event of damage.

The diagram should help you to determine the correct position of cuts.

Possible separation points on outer side member

A-B-C  Replace cuts for outer side member
> 514555 REPLACING OUTER SIDE MEMBER 
A-D  Replace cuts for centre side member
> 51455503 REPLACING OUTER SIDE MEMBER (FRONT SECTION) 
B-D-E  Replace cuts for B-pillar reinforcement
> 514255 REPLACING B-PILLAR REINFORCEMENT 
D-E  Replace cuts for B-pillar
> 514155 REPLACING B-PILLAR 
C-E  Replace cuts for rear side member
> 51455505 REPLACING OUTER SIDE MEMBER (REAR SECTION) 

Information 

Only make cuts in the top plate. Make sure not to damage the plate underneath when doing this.

Information 

Mark cuts to match the new part. Make sure to leave an overlap of approx. 30 mm with respect to the body.

  1. Mark and make cuts -A and B-  . > Distance 205 mm  > Distance 62 mm

    Cuts A and B

    Information 

    Only make cuts in the top plate. Make sure not to damage the plate underneath when doing this.

    Information 

    Mark cuts to match the new part. Make sure to leave an overlap of approx. 30 mm with respect to the body.

  2. Mark and make cuts -C and D-  . > Distance 73 mm  > Distance 66 mm

    Cuts C and D

    1. 2.1  Cut through side member plates -1-  and -2-  . Do not damage side member reinforcement -3 and 4-  .
  3. Disconnect connection points.
    1. 3.1  Drill out spot welds. > Spot welds

    3. 3.3  Remove punch rivets in area using > VAS 852 001 - dent removal unit, aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - Compact Booster  . > Punch rivets

      > 5X00IN23 REPLACE PUNCH RIVETS AND PENETRATED POINTS

  4. Bend up edges in the front door aperture > Edges in door aperture, top.

    1. 4.1  Heat bonding areas > Edges in door aperture, top  using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .
    2. 4.2  Bend up edges in the front door aperture > Edges in door aperture, top  using > VAS 6635 - crimping pliers set, 4-piece  .
  5. Bend up edges in the front door aperture > Edges in door aperture, bottom.

    1. 5.1  Heat bonding areas > Edges in door aperture, bottom using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .
    2. 5.2  Bend up edges in the front door aperture > Edges in door aperture, bottom using > VAS 6635 - crimping pliers set, 4-piece  .
  6. Remove B-pillar > Bonding areas  .

    1. 6.1  Heat bonding areas > Bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .
    2. 6.2  Remove B-pillar > Bonding areas  .
  7. Mark and make cuts -Dimension E-  . > Distance approx. 20 mm

    Stepping cuts

    1. 7.1  Cut only side member plate -1-  . Do not damage side member plate -2-  or side member reinforcement -3 and 4-  .
