Replacing Lane Change Assist Control Unit
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
- Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.
- Connect tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control in emergency start tray.
Emergency start tray
- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- In the Overview, press F7 to switch to the Additional menu.
The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Select Commission component protection.
- 5.1 Follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
- 5.2 Select Gateway (master) component protection in order to teach it.
- 5.3 Teach component protection in accordance with menu guidance.
- 5.4 Tester displays message: Component protection taught successfully.
- Go back to the Overview.
- In the Overview, select Lane Change Assist 1, right (master) control unit. Press F12 to continue.
- Select Coding/programming.
- Automatic programming
must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- 9.1 Tester displays message: Coding successfully performed.
- Go back to the Overview.
- Teach combination sensor.
- 11.1 In the Overview, select Airbag control unit.
- 11.2 Select Maintenance/repairs.
- 11.3 Select Teach combination sensor. Press F12 to continue.
- 11.4 Read and follow the instructions and warnings on the tester. Press F8 to start.
- If installed: Calibrate rear spoiler.
- If installed: Calibrate panoramic roof.
> Refer to the appropriate service information.
- Read out fault memory. If necessary, process and delete existing errors.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect Tester from vehicle.
