Coding Steering Wheel Electronics Control Unit

Information 

The airbag contact unit is integrated in the steering wheel electronics control unit and cannot be replaced separately.

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if required.
  3. In the overview,  press F7 to switch to the Additional menu.  The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears.

    Press F11 to continue.

  4. Function enable  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  5. Enter the PPN user name and password.  Press F12 to continue.
  6. Display enabled functions  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  7. The enabled functions are displayed. Follow the instruction on the Tester: Carry out restore process  and press F8.
  8. Restore enabled functions  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  9. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
  10. The Tester displays the message: Restore successful.  Press F12 to continue.
  11. Read out fault memory and erase it if necessary.
  12. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
