Replacing External Communication Control Unit
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
- Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
Cross-installation of the control unit for external communication with the control unit for external communication from another vehicle is not permitted and can result in damage to the software.

Make sure that you have sufficient mobile phone and satellite reception.

If the control unit is replaced externally, the following steps must be carried out before installation:
- Remove battery from external control unit
- Wait 5 seconds
- Install battery for external control unit

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.
On vehicles with country code C02/C36 (USA/Canada) and without optional control unit - external communication (Connect control unit), the PVTS control unit is integrated in the gateway control unit.
- Connect Tester to vehicle and start. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control in emergency start tray.

Information
Before installing the new control unit, the control unit specifications must be documented/photographed.
If a problem occurs while teaching/activating the control unit following installation, you will need the control unit specifications for the Hotline.
- Read and carry out the following instructions:
- Select the vehicle type on the tester if necessary.
- In the Overview
, press F7 to select the Additional menu.
Press F12 to continue.
The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
For vehicles with the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) option, continue with Step 6
For vehicles without the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) option, continue with Step 7
- In the Additional menu,
select the Immobilizer commissioning
function.
- 6.1 Follow instructions and procedure.
- 6.2 Teach engine immobilizer according to menu guidance.
- 6.3 Tester displays: Engine immobilizer taught.
- In the Additional menu,
select the Commission component protection
function.
- 7.1 Follow instructions and procedure.
- 7.2 Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
- 7.3 Tester displays: Component protection taught.
- Switch back to the Overview menu.
- In the Overview, select the Connect control unit.
- Select Coding/programming.
- Select Automatic coding.
Press F12 to continue.
- 11.1 Tester displays: Coding successful.
- Deactivate flight mode.

For vehicles with the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) option, continue with Step 13
For vehicles without the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) option, continue with Step 16
- In the Overview, select the Connect control unit.
- Select Maintenance/repairs.
- Select PVTS function test.
- 15.1 Follow Tester instructions and notes.
- 15.2 Perform PVTS function test according to menu guidance.
- Read out all fault memories, process and delete existing faults if necessary.
- Exit diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect Tester from the vehicle.
