Checking Battery In Control Unit For External Communication

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

  3. Select the Connect  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  4. Actual values/input signals  must be selected.
  5. Select General  .
    1. 5.1  Select Battery for emergency call module: State of charge  .
    2. 5.2  If the state of charge is > 80%, continue with Step  7.
    3. 5.3  If the state of charge is > 80%, continue with Step 6.
  6. Select Emergency call system battery: Charging status. 
    1. 6.1  If charging status is "charging", continue with Step  6.3.
    2. 6.2  If charging status is "not charging", continue with Step  7.
    3. 6.3  Wait 5 minutes.
    4. 6.4  If the state of charge is increased, continue with step  7.
    5. 6.5  If the state of charge is not increased, replace battery in control unit for external communication.

  7. Select Emergency call system battery: Voltage. 
    1. 7.1  If the voltage is > 3, 000 mV, replace battery for control unit for external communication.

    2. 7.2  If the voltage is > 3, 000 mV no further action is required.
  8. Go back to the overview. 
  9. In  the overview,  press F7 to switch to the Additional menu. 
  10. Read out all fault memories,  work through faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memories.
  11. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
