Installing Front Air-Spring Strut

Front air-spring strut

• Install stored air-spring struts within one year  .
• Do not set the air-spring strut down on/against the control valves connectors, air connection or screw dome  .
• Only transport air-spring struts -1- by hand at the cover -2- and shock absorber fork -3-  .

Information 

• Make sure not to damage the sealing ring when guiding the drive shaft into the final drive  .
• Check that the profile splines on the drive shaft and transmission side interlock securely! 
• The use of an impact tool is not permitted  .

1. Only for the right drive shaft: 

   Replace circlip -2-  and sealing ring -3-  on the right drive shaft -1-  .

   Clip in new skid plate  .

2. Only for the right drive shaft: 

   Grease spline -1-  on the right drive shaft with Molub Alloy Paste TA.

3. Only for the left drive shaft: 

   Replace circlip -2-  on the front final drive shaft -1-  .

4. Only for the left drive shaft: 

   Grease -1-  spline of the left drive shaft with Molub Alloy Paste TA.

   Information 

   • Do not move air-spring strut when empty! 
   • Do not release any air! 

   Information 

   You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.

5. Install front air-spring strut -1-  with drive shaft -2-  .
   1. 5.1 Position -1-  front air-spring strut with drive shaft -2-  .
   2. 5.2 Fit drive shaft -2-  into the front final drive with a quick jerking movement.
   3. 5.3 Position new  nuts -3-  on the spring-strut mount.

6. Secure air-spring strut fork -1-  to the lower -2-  front control arm.
   1. 6.1 Place new  screw -4-  in position and fit new  nut -3-  , but do not tighten yet.

   Information 

   Check the following before installing the air line:

   • Check that the cutting ring -1-  and Voss threaded joint -2-  are still on the air line -3-  .
   • Check that the air line is fitted correctly.

   Only one marking -1-  on the air line should be visible.

   Pull the air line briefly against the insertion direction. If it cannot be pulled out, the air line is fitted correctly.

7. Secure -3-  air line on air-spring strut -2-  .
   1. 7.1 -1-  Connect air line and tighten Voss threaded joint on the air line -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)

8. Clip in electric plug connection in holder -2-  at top of air-spring strut -1-  and connect and lock it.

9. Connect electric lines -1-  to air-spring strut -2-  .
   1. 9.1 Clip electric line -1-  into holder -4-  .
   2. 9.2 Connect and lock electric plug connections -3-  .
