Removing Rear Side Member

Installation position of rear side member

  1. Remove floor section.
    1. 1.1 Unscrew self-tapping screws.

    2. 1.2 Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - Body Dent Removal System, Aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - Compact Booster  .

    3. 1.3 Grind down welded seams.

    4. 1.4 Heat bonding surfaces. > V.A.G 1416 - Hot-Air Blower

    5. 1.5 Remove floor section.
  2. Remove reinforcement plate in seat well.
    1. 2.1 Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - Body Dent Removal System, Aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - Compact Booster  .

    2. 2.2 Heat bonding surfaces. > V.A.G 1416 - Hot-Air Blower

    3. 2.3 Remove reinforcement plate in seat well.
  3. Remove connecting piece for cross member.
    1. 3.1 Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - Body Dent Removal System, Aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - Compact Booster  .

    2. 3.2 Drill out spotwelds.

    3. 3.3 Grind down welded seams.

    4. 3.4 Heat bonding surfaces. > V.A.G 1416 - Hot-Air Blower

      Heating up bonding areas

    5. 3.5 Remove connecting piece for cross member.
  4. Remove reinforcement for longitudinal member.
    1. 4.1 Drill out spotwelds.

    2. 4.2 Remove reinforcement for longitudinal member.
  5. Remove connecting piece for cross member.
    1. 5.1 Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - Body Dent Removal System, Aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - Compact Booster  .

    2. 5.2 Drill out spotwelds.

    4. 5.4 Remove connecting piece for cross member.
  6. Remove backrest holder.
    1. 6.1 Drill out spotwelds.

    2. 6.2 Heat bonding areas. > V.A.G 1416 - Hot-Air Blower

    3. 6.3 Remove backrest holder.
  7. Remove C-pillar bracket.
    1. 7.1 Drill out spotwelds.

  8. Remove reinforcement bracket.
    1. 8.1 Drill out spotwelds.

  9. Make cut as shown.

  10. Remove rear side member.
  1. 10.1 Drill out spotwelds.

  2. 10.2 Grind down welded seams.

    Information 

    To remove the rear side member, one part of the longitudinal member closing element -1-  must remain on the vehicle.

  4. 10.4 Pull rear side member inwards and guide it out towards the rear -arrows-  .
