Removing Shock Absorber Fork

  1. Loosen tie-rod ball -1-  from the wheel bearing housing -2-  .

    Tie-rod ball on wheel bearing housing

    1. 1.1 Unscrew nut -3-  as far as required on joint pin -4-  for tie-rod ball -1-  until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin -4-  .
    2. 1.2 Press off joint pin -4-  for tie-rod ball -1-  using > T40010 - ball joint puller  .
    3. 1.3 Unscrew nut -3-  from joint pin -4-  , counter at the hexagon socket of the joint pin -4-  and remove tie-rod ball -1-  from wheel bearing housing -2-  .
  2. Unscrew nut -1-  and remove connecting link -2-  for front angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment from the lower trailing arm.

  3. Unscrew screw -4-  securing connecting link for anti-roll bar to shock absorber fork -1-  .

    1. 3.1 Raise the wheel suspension as far as required on the opposite side using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  so that the screw can be unscrewed -4-  without any great resistance or load.
  4. Support the wheel bearing housing to prevent the wheel bearing housing from tilting.

    Support T10149 on wheel hub

    1. 4.1 > T10149 - Support  must be fitted on > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  .
    2. 4.2 Turn the wheel hub until one bore is at the highest position and secure > T10149 - support  at the very top bore of the wheel hub using a wheel bolt -Arrow-  . > Support T10149 on wheel hub 
  5. Loosen upper trailing arms -1 and 2-  from wheel bearing housing -5-  .

    1. 5.1 Unscrew clamping screw on wheel bearing housing -3-  and counter at the nut -4-  at the same time.
    2. 5.2 Pull upper trailing arms -1 and 2-  out of the wheel bearing housing -5-  .
  6. Remove shock absorber fork -1-  .

    Shock absorber fork

    1. 6.1 Unscrew screw securing shock absorber fork to lower trailing arm -2-  and counter at the nut -3-  at the same time.
    2. 6.2 Unscrew clamping screw securing shock absorber fork to spring strut -4-  and counter at the nut -5-  at the same time.
    3. 6.3 Open up shock absorber fork clamp -1-  using > 3424 - spreader  > 3424 - spreader  .
    4. 6.4 Pull shock absorber fork -1-  down off the spring strut. Carefully pull the wheel bearing housing down slightly if necessary.
