Draining Fuel Using The PIWIS Tester

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 
    1. → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    2. → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
    3. → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    4. → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    5. → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
WARNING: Caustic fluids 
  • Danger of chemical burns 
    1. → Wear personal protective gear.
    2. → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
    3. → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
    4. → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

Information 

The fuel tank can be drained completely by selecting the method using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  .

  1. Fit connecting lines.
    1. 1.1 Connecting line no. 18  from > V. A. G 1318 - K-Jetronic Tester  and the longer of the two > P378c - Connecting lines  must be connected to the feed pipe. Make sure that the plug-in couplings engage securely.
    2. 1.2  Put the end of the connecting line into a suitable fuel container in order to collect the fuel that must be drained.

    Make sure that the fuel container you are using is sufficiently large to hold the amount of fuel to be drained. Have several fuel containers ready if necessary.

  2. Prepare extraction system.
    1. 2.1  Position suction hose from the workshop's extraction system on the fuel container in such a way that the emerging fuel vapours can be extracted.
    2. 2.2  Switch on the extraction system.
  3. Drain fuel.
    1. 3.1  PIWIS Tester must be switched on and connected to the vehicle.
    2. 3.2  Switch on the ignition.
    3. 3.3  Select DME  in the control unit search screen.
    4. 3.4  Switch to the Drive links/checks  menu and select the Drain fuel tank  function.
    5. 3.5  Activate the Drain fuel tank  function with F12 in order to start the fuel pump and drain the fuel.
    6. 3.6  After draining fuel, stop the Drain fuel tank  function, disconnect the PIWIS Tester from the vehicle and switch off the ignition.
  4. Disconnect connecting lines from feed pipe.
