Replacing Central Computer

NOTIFICATION 

Voltage drop 

• Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
• Risk of damage to control unit 
• Fault entries in the control unit 
• Coding in the control unit is aborted 
• Malfunctions in control unit even during programming 
  1. → Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
  2. → Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
  3. → Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

China and Korea  : If a central computer is replaced, the navigation database must be re-installed.

INFORMATION 

• If a new central computer is installed on a vehicle,> 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 must - be used for enabling functions. 
• During programming, the power supply for> 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 must - be guaranteed. A battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A must be connected to the vehicle battery. 
• The> 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 instructions - take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations can occur with later software versions. 
• The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text may appear in the> 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 or - additional information/steps may be displayed or required. 

Information 

If a central computer is replaced, the data stored in the vehicle will be lost. Always inform the customer that the logbook data must be saved beforehand and backed up on an external data storage medium.

1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
2. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
3. Select the PCM  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. "Create vehicle analysis log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
4. Select Coding/programming. 
5. Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.
   1. 5.1  The Tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.
6. Switch back to the overview  . Start he Additional menu  by pressing F7.
7. Select Component protection start-up. 
   1. 7.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
   2. 7.2  Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
8. Select Function enable. 
   1. 8.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
   2. 8.2  Select Display enabled functions. 
   3. 8.3  Select Carry out restore process. 
   4. 8.4  Enable functions in accordance with menu guidance.
   5. 8.5  The Tester displays the message: Restore successfully completed.
9. Read out all fault memories  , work through faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memories.
10. Exit the diagnostic application. End operational readiness on the vehicle. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
11. After a successful recovery, perform function test on the PCM.
