Subsequent Work

WARNING: Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly 
  • Unexpected vehicle handling 
  • Steering - angle sensor does not function 
  • Malfunction in steering-angle-sensor 

    → After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester.

    → Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.

    → For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.

If the previous wheel alignment values (on rear and/or front axle) were changed, the following subsequent work must be performed: 

  1. Calibrate steering-angle sensor for PSM.

    > 456005 CHECKING AND ADJUSTING STEERING-ANGLE SENSOR FOR PSM

  2. Teach power-steering gear.

    > 489025 TEACHING POWER-STEERING GEAR

  3. If installed:  Calibrate control unit for distance measuring sensor.

    > 278515 ADJUST CONTROL UNIT FOR DISTANCE MEASURING SENSOR

  4. If installed:  Calibrate front camera.

    > 963855 REPLACING FRONT CAMERA

  5. If installed:  Calibrate infrared camera.

    > 908019 REMOVE AND INSTALL INFRARED CAMERA

  6. Teach headlight beam adjustment.
    1. 6.1  Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester  .
    2. 6.2  Establish operational readiness.
    3. 6.3  Start diagnostics.
    4. 6.4  Select "Front-end electronics"  control unit.
    5. 6.5  Select the "Maintenance/repairs"  tab.
    6. 6.6  Select the menu item "Teach headlight beam adjustment"  and press F12 to continue.
    7. 6.7  Follow the instructions on the Tester.
