Installing Power-Steering Gear

Information 

The power-steering gear bellows must not be kinked or damaged during removal and installation.

Make sure that the steering gear pinion is not fitted twisted.

1. Replace screws and nuts.
2. Install power-steering gear -1-  .
   1. 2.1  Insert power-steering gear -1-  into the supports.
   2. 2.2  Screw in new screws -4-  .
   3. 2.3  Insert new screw -3-  .
   4. 2.4  Screw on new  nut -2-  , tighten using > VAS 6942 - digital torque wrench, 20-400 Nm (15-296 ftlb.)  and counter at screw -3-  at the same time.

      > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 

      > Torque angle + 180 ° 

   5. 2.5  Tighten screws -4-  using > VAS 6942 - digital torque wrench, 20-400 Nm (15-296 ftlb.)  .

      > Tightening torque 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) 

   > Torque angle + 180 °

3. Connect universal joint for steering column -1-  .
   1. 3.1  Make sure that the power-steering gear -3-  and steering wheel are in centre position.
   2. 3.2  Connect universal joint for steering column -1-  to the power-steering gear -3-  .
   3. 3.3  Fit new  screw -2-  and tighten using > 9768 - electronic torque wrench, 2 - 100 Nm (1.5 - 74 ftlb.)  .

      > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 

   > Torque angle 90 °

4. Connect and lock electric plug connections -1 and 2-  .
